June Reading List

I come by it naturally.  My Dad couldn't walk by a bookstore without going in, only to emerge an hour later with a big stack of new books.  I'm much the same with many kinds of books, but especially with quilt and stitching books.

So I'm always interested to see what new books have arrived in the warehouse.  Here are five books that caught my attention.

Judy Gauthier is a scrap-quilter.

Sensational Quilts Judy Gauthier Quilt

What I've always liked about Judy's quilts is that her fabrics are almost always vibrant, creating quilts that are full of energy.

Sensational Quilts for Scrap Lovers is her fifth book, and it has eleven great sew-your-stash scrap quilts.

Sensational Quilts For Scrap Lovers

Sensational Quilts is from C&T Publishing and it's in shops now.

Barbara Brackman, you know her as an eminent quilt historian, Reproduction fabric designer, prolific blogger, and all-around seriously cool lady.  She has a new book - Divided Hearts: A Civil War Friendship Quilt.

Divided Hearts by Barbara Brackman

This is more than a "pattern book", it includes stories and history.  Inspirations.  Isn't that what any kind of good book is about?

Divided Hearts by Barbara Brackman is in shops now.  It is also from C&T.

As soon as I read that Minki Kim - well-known on Instagram as Zeriano - had a new book, I have been looking for it.  I love her work - it's whimsical, beautifully detailed, and impeccably done.

Zakka Wool Applique

Zakka Wool Appliqué by Minki Kim is from C&T.  This wool appliqué is often onto fabric backgrounds, and the wool can be wool felt.  Mixing embroidery, appliqué and a bit of piecing, these projects make items that will be loved, enjoyed and used.

Though honestly, this is so perfect that I'm not sure I would risk mussing it up.  Zakka Wool Appliqué by Minki Kim is available now.

If you love and use table-runners, you need Tabletastic by Doug Leko of Antler Quilt Designs.

There are twenty designs in this spiral-bound book, and each project is shown in two colorways for more ideas.  Use pre-cuts or your scraps, the table-runners and toppers can be made to fit every season.  It's why the spiral-binding is perfect - the book will get used that much.  Tabletastic by Doug Leko is in shops now.

And finally, many in the office have been waiting for a few months for this book - Labor of Love: Scrappy Quilts At the Heart of Home by Moda designer, Sherri McConnell.

Labor of Love by Sherri McConnell

With twelve projects ranging from quilts to pillows, table-runners to wall quilts, there is something for every scrap-lover.  The traditional blocks and structure of the quilts also makes the projects suitable for every style of fabric - the sweet florals that Sherri & Chelsi design, Reproduction style prints, brights, and so on.

Labor of Love by Sherri McConnell is from Martingale and it's in shops now.

Sherri is hosting a sew-along for her new book, it's a sampler quilt made with blocks from the book.  You'll need the book to sew along, and there is more information about the quilt on Sherri's blog - A Quilting Life.

That's it for today.  Are there any new books that I should look for?

I hope you get to sew something today.
