Happy Blockheads Wednesday! Today is Week 20, which means we are two-thirds of the way through Group 2, can you believe it? So far, we’ve made lots of flying geese, HSTs, square-in-a-squares, stitch-and-flip corners, and four-patches…and we’ve tackled paper piecing and applique, too! But there are still some new techniques to explore, and our block this week does just that. Our featured designer this week is Moda’s very own Lissa Alexander, our Director of Marketing, also known as ModaLissa – and Lissa has brought us a striking block that gives us the look of diamond piecing without the fuss of set-in seams.

You can find this week’s pattern here: BH5 – Group 2, Block 20 – Spinning Star by Lissa Alexander

We’re so excited that Lissa is hosting this week’s Blockheads tutorial video! You can follow along with Lissa as she sews her block and shares her tips and tricks for Spinning Star. You can watch this week’s video below:

Don't let the intricate design intimidate you! Lissa breaks down the process, showing you how to cut precise 45-degree angles and diamond shapes with ease. Plus, master the art of sewing along the bias like a pro. It’s all in this week’s video, so be sure to check it out!

Are you ready to see our blocks?

Lissa's 6" block features Nantucket Summer prints.

Alison is making a traditional/fall version in 12” blocks and a patriotic version in 6” blocks.

Annie is using Ruby Star Society for her blocks!

And I am making a traditional/repro scrappy fall version and a sweet/cottage-y Americana version in 6” blocks.

Now…off you go to press, cut, and sew! And don’t forget to share your blocks with us in our Facebook group or on Instagram (#modablockheads5)!
